1. Overview
CardNews (“we”, “the app”) is a news reader that turns RSS feeds into swipeable cards. Favorites, reading progress, and layout data stay on your device. This Privacy Policy explains what information is processed, how it is used, and the choices available to you.
2. RSS and network data
To show news, CardNews fetches public RSS/Atom feeds from sources you select (built-in categories or custom URLs you add). Your device connects directly to those feed publishers. We do not operate a central news server that stores your reading history on our backend.
Article pages opened in the in-app browser or system browser are loaded from the original publisher’s website. Those sites have their own privacy policies.
3. Data stored on your device
The following are stored locally on your phone (for example via SharedPreferences): favorites and paper-board positions, unread card decks per category, custom RSS subscriptions, dismissed/read markers, theme and language preferences, VIP status flag, and cached translations attached to cards.
You can remove favorites, custom feeds, and daily digests inside the app. Uninstalling CardNews typically removes remaining local app data according to your device OS behavior.
4. Translation
When translation is enabled and your language is not English, CardNews may send article titles and summaries to Google’s translation service so you can read them in your chosen language. Only the text needed for translation is transmitted; we do not send your favorites list or account data (the app does not require an account).
Translated text may be cached on your device to speed up reading. You can switch back to English originals in the app at any time.
5. Sharing
If you use Share, CardNews generates an image poster on your device and opens your system share sheet. We do not upload shared images to our servers.
6. Advertising
Free users may see interstitial ads served by Google (Google Mobile Ads / AdMob). Google and its partners may collect or receive information such as advertising identifiers (IDFA on iOS or GAID on Android), IP address, device type, and ad interaction signals to deliver, measure, and improve ads, detect fraud, and comply with applicable laws.
This advertising data is processed by Google under Google’s Privacy Policy and advertising policies. Depending on your region and device settings, you may limit ad personalization (for example via iOS App Tracking Transparency, Android advertising settings, or Google ad settings). Lifetime VIP removes ads in the app.
7. In-app purchases (VIP)
Optional Lifetime VIP is sold through Apple App Store or Google Play. Payment, receipts, and refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their terms. We receive only the information needed to unlock VIP features on your device (for example purchase validation through the store APIs).
8. Account
CardNews does not require you to create an account with us to use core reading features.
9. Children’s privacy
CardNews is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app in a way that violates this policy, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
10. International users
RSS publishers, Google (translation and ads), and app stores may process data in countries where they operate. Those providers maintain their own privacy and security practices.
11. Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the app after an update means you acknowledge the revised policy.
